Live at Beyond Baroque 2 is a live recording of poetry, stories, and music from a majestic November evening in fabled Venice, California. This eclectic evening – the coming together of white-haired professors with iconoclastic emcee hip hop notables, slammers, renown painters, journalists, Latino activists, actors, singer/songwriters – all poets – in front of 300 strangers at the famed Beyond Baroque Literary Center has resulted in a two disc CD. The evening honored the important indie driven Midnight Special Bookstore and the release of the contemporary anthology of poetry, The Spoken Word Revolution. Live at Beyond Baroque 2 includes spoken words by Marvin Bell (Iowa Poet Laureate), Mike McGee (2003 National Poetry Slam Champion), Patricia Smith (author of Close to Death, nominee for the Pulitzer in journalism), Luis J. Rodriquez (author of Always Running, activist), Viggo Mortensen (poet, actor), Georganne Deen (author of Western Witch, Season of the, painter), Mark Eleveld (author of The Spoken Word Revolution), and perhaps the two best performance poets on the planet, Saul Williams (author of Said the Shotgun to the Head) and Regie Gibson (author of Storms Beneath the Skin) with musical accompaniment by John Condron. The CD is designed by Michele Perez, and co-produced by Perceval Press and EM Press.
